When exactly does the Tuk Tuk Run happen?

21–31 January 2027. Arrive in Sri Lanka on or before 20 Jan for the Day 0 welcome briefing in Negombo. The run itself starts 21 Jan and ends with the secret jungle party on 30 Jan in Weligama. We share a farewell breakfast together on the morning of 31 Jan before goodbyes.

When should I arrive in Sri Lanka?

On or before 20 January 2027. Fly into Colombo (CMB) — we recommend landing by early evening on 20 Jan at the latest so you're rested for the Day 0 briefing. We send detailed pickup and accommodation info on confirmation.

When can I fly home?

Accepted Answer

Anytime from the afternoon of 31 January 2027 onwards. Lots of teams stay on for a few extra surf days at our Wake N Flow properties — message us for a discounted post-run rate.

Question 4

What does the winning team actually win?

Accepted Answer

Each member of the winning team picks one of two fully-paid 7-day trips from Sri Lanka — India or Bali. We cover the one-way flight from Colombo, all accommodation, curated activities and local experiences, plus airport pickup. Travel window: within 12 months of the finale. Non-transferable, non-refundable for cash.

We're a team of 2 — can we pay for a 3rd seat for extra space?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Book as a pair, add a paid privacy seat in the form (or message us), and the third tuk-tuk seat and bed stay yours. We'll confirm pricing on WhatsApp or email — it works out roughly the same per-person cost with more space and privacy.

Can solo travellers request same-gender or specific matches?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Add any matching preferences (gender, age range, travel style, language) in the form. We confirm matches 8 weeks before launch and check with everyone before locking it in.

Do I need a driving licence?

Accepted Answer

Yes — a valid licence from your home country plus an International Driving Permit. We also help you get the Sri Lanka recognition permit on arrival. Minimum age 21 to drive, 18 to ride along. We send a step-by-step guide once your spot is confirmed.

What if a teammate drops out last minute?

Accepted Answer

Up to 14 days before launch you can swap them for someone else at no cost. Inside 14 days, the team continues and that seat's deposit is non-refundable but transferable to a future edition.

Is travel and medical insurance included?

Accepted Answer

No — and it's mandatory. You must bring your own. We recommend providers in the welcome pack once you're confirmed.

What language is the run in? Can international teams join?

Accepted Answer

All briefings, clues and group comms are in English. Teams from any country are welcome — most past travellers come from the UK, Europe, Australia and North America.

Dietary requirements or accessibility needs?

Accepted Answer

Yes — flag them in the form. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and most allergies are easy at every stop. For accessibility needs, message us first so we can confirm the route works for you.

Will there be photos and video?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A professional photographer covers key stops and the finale. All media is shared free with participants after the run. You can opt out at registration.

How much luggage can I bring?

Accepted Answer

One carry-on bag per person plus a daypack fits in the tuk-tuk. Bigger bags can be stored safely at our Weligama property between Day 0 and the finale.

Can I pay in instalments?

Accepted Answer

Yes. €300 deposit holds your spot, then balance in 2 payments — 8 weeks and 2 weeks before launch. Need a custom plan? Just WhatsApp us.

Question 15

We're a group of 5–8 friends — can we still join?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Book as two teams in the form and tell us you want to ride together. We keep your tuk-tuks in the same convoy and you can compete head-to-head.

Question 16

Do I need driving experience?

Accepted Answer

You need a valid driving licence and an international driving permit. Tuk-tuks are simple to drive — if you can ride a scooter, you'll be fine. We give you a briefing on Day 0.

Can I come alone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Choose solo entry and we match you with two other participants at a similar age and travel style. You'll meet on a WhatsApp call before the run starts.

What happens if the tuk-tuk breaks down?

Accepted Answer

It will probably happen at least once — that's part of it. Our support vehicle follows the route and is always reachable on WhatsApp. We have mechanic contacts in every town on the route.

Is this safe?

Sri Lanka is a very safe country to travel in. The roads vary — some are excellent, some are mountain tracks. We brief all teams on safe driving before departure and provide emergency contacts at every stop. Travel insurance is mandatory.

Question 20

What fitness level do I need?

Accepted Answer

You don't need to be athletic. You need to be comfortable sitting in a tuk-tuk for 2–4 hours a day, walking to find clues, and generally being up for an adventure. The surf lesson at Hiriketiya is optional.

Can I upgrade my room?

Absolutely. Basic accommodation is included, but you're free to upgrade at your own cost at any stop. We'll share recommended options in your pre-run info pack.

What's the cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Full refund if we cancel for any reason. If you cancel 60+ days before departure, full refund minus €50 admin. 30–60 days, 50% refund. Under 30 days, no refund — but your spot can be transferred to someone else.
